Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer

Book: Rival
Author: Sara Bennett Wealer
Page Number: 336 pages
Publisher: HarperTeen
Published: Feb 15th,2011
Source: Bought on Kindle
Summary:
Brooke
I don't like Kathryn Pease. I could pretend everything's fine between us. I could be nice to her face, then trash her behind her back. But I think it's better to be honest. I don't like Kathryn, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Kathryn
I saw a commercial where singers used their voices to shatter glass, but the whole thing is pretty much a myth. The human voice isn't that strong.

Human hatred is. Anybody who doubts that should feel the hate waves coming off of Brooke Dempsey. But I don't shatter; I'm not made of glass. Anyway, the parts that break aren't on the outside.

Brooke and Kathryn used to be best friends . . . until the night when Brooke ruthlessly turned on Kathryn in front of everyone. Suddenly Kathryn was an outcast and Brooke was Queen B. Now, as they prepare to face off one last time, each girl must come to terms with the fact that the person she hates most might just be the best friend she ever had. ( Taken from Amazon, or Sara Bennett Wealers website. Both are the same.)
Rating: 5/5 stars

I'd thought about reading Rival since it's release so when I finished my last book a few days earlier I decided to try it out.
Rival is a riveting story about friendship, trust, rivals, and music. Usually contemporary novels are a bit slow, but this one was packed with action and memories. Memories or going back in time sometimes can be a bit annoying in novels. You just want the author to get on with the story. In Rival it's different. The memories were all part of the suspense of the book.
I felt the character were well put together and you could understand them and their actions, even Brooke. Most would think Brooke is your classic popular girl. Mean, rude, and perfect. Brooke was more real and kinder than classic popular girls. When she was mean, like to Kathryn she had good reasons.
I also really enjoyed all the music talk. Music played a huge part in the story and was what brought the girls together in the first place, and in a way make their hatred stronger for each other.
The authors writing was really poetic. If you read the summary you see how she starts the book: poeticly ( is that even a word?) She also has a a way of making you feel like the character are real people with a slight touch of making them seem otherworldly.
I would recommend Rival to anyone who wants a good fast read to drink with a cup of hot chocolate by the fire. A fabulous read!

Waiting on Wednesday Happens every Wednesday and is hosted by Jill at Breaking the spine. This weekly meme lets everyone know how ecstatic they are for certain upcoming releases.

Book:Hourglass
Author: Myra McEntire
Published:May 24th,2011
Page Number:416
Publisher: EgmontU.S.A
Summery: Since the age of fourteen, Emerson Cole has seen strange things – dead things – swooning Southern Belles, soldiers, and other eerie apparitions of the past. She’s tried everything to get rid of the visions: medication, counseling, asylums. Nothing’s worked.

So when Emerson's well-meaning brother calls in yet another consultant from a mysterious organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to give it one last try.

Michael Weaver is no ordinary consultant. He's barely older than she is; he listens like no one she's ever met before; and he doesn't make her feel the least bit crazy. As Emerson ventures deeper into the world of the Hourglass, she begins to learn the truth about her past, her future--and her very life
(Taken of Myra McEntires website)

Why I can't wait to read it:

* It sounds very orginal, plus who doesn't love the name Emerson?

* The cover is very mysterious. It makes you wonder what is coming to happen.

* Hourglass, the organization sounds very interesting.

* Last but not least: A boy that doesn't treat the girl badly. Plus he sounds more like a friendly possible boyfriend.

So, what do you think of Hourglass. Are you dying to read it? Or do hate the idea? Let me know in the comments section!

The Story Snail

A few months back I opened my eyes and found out there was book blogs!I was so excited that there were people who loved reading. I looked all over the web for the coolest ones and decided I wanted one too! I found a really cool site: Shabby Blogs.com. They had fun designs to decorate my blo with. After many blogs that some way or another got screwed up I made this one: The Story Snail. After I had my main designs down I searched around and found some other ones to put on the side bars. Tah dah I had a blog. I was so excited to posting I went straight to it. Then a thought came to me: I needed to write an introduction. So here I am tapping away on the key board writing my 2nd post ever. Anyways here you go: my introduction.

About Me:
My name is Lexi and I love to read. Reading can take you places you've never dreamed of and can show you the world through someone elses eyes. Along with reading I also like photograhy and writing. Some of my favorite authors include: Stephanie Meyer,Kierstan White, Rick Riordan, and Richelle Mead. Oh and another thing you should know about me: I get really hyper and say random things like TURTLES and most recently PIGS. I also love cute creatures like animated snails, not real ones though. If real ones were lime green with purple backs I would, but I highly doubt thats going to happen. Oh, and one last thing... Pink PIGS! See, I told I get hyper and say weird things. And yes there is one last thing. I love good manners. No burping, please!

The 2011 Debut Author Challenge (hosted by The Story Siren)

This year after some thought I decided to participate in the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by The Story Siren. The goal is to read 12 debut author books and post reviews on them. Even of you don't have a blog you can participate in the challenge by posting your reviews on other sites such as Good Reads and Amazon. You should see a few debut author posts coming up later this week. And since this is my first post ever I'll be posting more about this blog and why I started it. So, are you going to participate in the 2011 debut author challenge?
